We are very pleased to have been appointed as UK agents for Drakensig Wines.

Drakensig is situated in the picturesque Franschoek valley approximately equi-distant from Paarl, Franschoek and Stellenbosch, north east of Cape Town in South Africa. The art of wine making was established here by the French Huguenots in the late 1600's. At the foot of the Simonsberg and over looking the majestic Drakenstein mountains, the climate and rich, red soils combine in perfect harmony. Drakensig literally means “View of the Dragons”. It is stunning.

Drakensig is a boutique cellar with a 150 ton capacity. Currently the cellar is producing 60 000 bottles of red wine and 10 000 bottles of Sauvignon Blanc per year with a steady 10% production increase per year. Drakensig matures its wines in French and American oak for one year, it is then bottled and marketing of the wines starts approximately three months after the wine has been bottled.

Drakensig produces Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Pinotage, Merlot and Sauvignon Blanc. The Cabernet Sauvignon won a gold medal at the 2001 Veritas awards and the John Platter gives it 3½ stars. The Shiraz won a silver medal at the 2002 Veritas awards and John Platter gives it 4 stars. Also the American wine magazine Wine Spectator gives the Cabernet Sauvignon 88/100 the Sauvignon Blanc 83/100 and the Shiraz 87/100.

This is a young winery which has developed an avid following in South Africa, North America and the Far East and Bristol Fine Wine is delighted to have the opportunity to bring the wines to the UK.
